Cracking the Code of your Ever-Changing Body

Teenhood is a wild ride. A whirlwind where your body goes on a roller coaster journey, from mood swings to surprise pimples. Sometimes it feels like a never ending set of new challenges. Amongst all this chaos, one sneaky detail, often left unmentioned, is how your body's form fluctuates throughout the month. It can be confusing and, at times, you may feel like you are not in your own body. But, fear not! Understanding these size shifts is the key to rocking your confidence and feeling cozy in your skin.

So... have you ever wondered why your body plays the size-change game every month?

Well, blame it on your menstrual cycle! Yep, that monthly visitor is responsible for cramps and mood swings and shaping how your body looks and feels. Throughout your cycle, hormones throw a party inside you, influencing everything; from your emotions to your appetite, to your changing body. And estrogen is a star of the hormonal show. It surfs up and down during your cycle, spiking before ovulation and dropping before your period kicks in.

When estrogen is in full swing, you might notice some water retention, leading to bloating and a puffier feel. Don't panic. It's completely normal and nothing to worry about. It's actually your body's way of gearing up for potential baby-making by holding onto some extra fluids. Maybe not on your radar at the start of puberty, but hey, let's continue jumping into the deep end to understand why!

Besides the water weight, your appetite and cravings also dance throughout your cycle. Some peeps feel like a bottomless pit before their period, craving all the things salty and sweet. While others may lose interest in food at different times. Ahhhhh. Thank you hormones!

But wait, there's more than just your menstrual cycle at play. Stress, diet, exercise, and sleep can also join the shape-shifting party. Feeling tense about a test? Your muscles might be holding onto stress-induced tension, making you feel bulkier than usual. Skimping on sleep due to late-night study sessions? Your body might feel sluggish and bloated, thanks to the sleep deprivation. And of course, diet and exercise have their own roles... eating well and staying active can keep you feeling strong and vibrant, while junk food and couch potato days might leave you feeling blah.

Hold up... My period hasn't turned up yet but my body's throwing a party of changes!

No need to panic, it's all part of the norm. Some bodies decide to throw a growth party before the period parade arrives. This is could be the onset of early puberty with the body starting rapid changes and size upgrades faster than ever before. So, if you're suddenly sprouting up like a sunflower without a period in sight, it's just your body getting ready for the next chapter of growth. Embrace the awkwardness and remember, puberty's a wild ride. The timeline is unique to each person, so there is no need to stress and there's no rush to hit those growth milestones!

So, how can you embrace your ever-changing body?

Listen closely to what it's telling you. Embrace those cravings but remember treating yourself to a balanced diet full of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean proteins may lift your spirits and make you feel less blah. Squeeze in some exercise, whether it's a walk, gymnastics in the backyard, a solo dance party, or an active Switch session. Not only will this keep your body feeling fierce, but it can also boost your mood and zap stress. Above all, be kind to yourself. Be your own cheerleader. Your body is a chameleon right now, and it's totally okay to feel a bit wonky at times. Remember, you're a unique beauty, no matter your jeans size or bloating level on any given day.

In a nutshell, your body is a fabulous, intricate machine that dances through endless changes during the teen years. By understanding why your size shifts during the month and pampering yourself accordingly, you can strut your stuff with confidence, no matter which cycle phase you're rocking. Settle in and prepare for your unchartered ride. 🥳🥳🥳
